Next release progressing nicely

Posted by LankyBrit on April 4, 2011

I know the next release is taking some time to come out, but that's because I've decided to add so much extra 'polish' functionality to it.  In fact, I may very well have bitten off way more than I expected to with this next release, as here's the feature list:

  • Saved state tracking for all design tabs.  Ctrl-S saves the tab in the file assigned to it.
  • Unsaved changes warning displayed when tab or application close attempt made without first saving changes.
  • Undo buffer for Freeform and Pixel Art tabs.  No more flood fill fubars.
  • Arrow keys now bound to layer up/down and increase/decrease scale.  Shift plus arrow keys used to increase/decrease transparency of background image on Pixel Art tab.
  • Progress bar appears in status bar to show you the progress of long running operations.
  • Added more of the missing textures.
  • Modified Mazes so that you can create them with floors and/or ceilings (makes stacking mazes easier.)
  • Add/remove rows, columns and layers from arbitrary positions.

There are a couple of issues with this.  Firstly, key binding and interception within Java is a ROYAL pain in the ass, and is proving difficult to get working under all circumstances.  Secondly, most of the functionality listed above is partly done, but none of the functionality listed above is in a releaseable state.  Finally, real, paying work is getting in the way again, and I'm not having as much time to work on this project as I'd like.

I wish I could give a more accurate estimate of when the next release will be.  The closest I can get is 'pretty soon now.'  I hope, after reading the list above, that you'll think it's worth waiting for.

Cheers,
LankyBrit.
